George Thorogood and the Destroyers

“I know I’m full of (crap), but I’m having a good time,” George Thorogood told a crowd gathered to watch him perform March 7 at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville.

And that pretty much sums it up.

George Thorogood, approaching 60 years of age, is still full of vim and vigor. He’s still got chops on guitar. He’s still got a few moves, too, as he spent a good part of the evening wriggling about onstage, shaking his hips or spinning in circles while playing his white Gibson guitar.

But Thorogood isn’t the best guitarist you’ll ever see. His stage show isn’t the most advanced, although the LED video boards that flanked him on both sides of his spot in the middle of the stage had their moments. And, heck, he doesn’t even play that many of his own songs, making hits instead of blues standards by John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley and more.

But, you know what? He’s on to something. When you’re having as he was on Sunday night, it’s hard not so share some of that enthusiasm.

Love some county blues? Give it up for Delbert McClinton, who is coming to the Walton Arts Center on Valentine’s Day.

Monday mornings aren’t always fun, but there is one sure way to make it a little brighter: announcements that concerts are on the way.

That comes in the form of the news that three-time Grammy Award winner Delbert McClinton is on the way to the Walton Arts Center for a concert on Feb. 14 (a Sunday).

McClinton is a noted songwriter and singer has combined blues and country into hits such as a duet with Bonnie Raitt, “Good Man, Good Woman” and “Givin’ It Up For Your Love.”

He is touring in support of his latest album, “Acquired Taste.”

The show is part of the “George’s Presents…” series at the Walton Arts Center, which combines the efforts of that arts venue with the concert promoters at nearby venue George’s Majestic Lounge.

Also confirmed is a March 7 concert by George Thorogood that we first told you about a few weeks ago. It too is part of the George’s Presents series.

Tickets to either are on sale now and start at $25.50. Get them through the WAC’s Web site.

On the Way — George Thorogood, March 7 @ WAC

George Thorogood may be getting older himself, but that blues guitar work will still make some old women blush. His Web site indicates he’ll be coming to the Walton Arts Center on March 7.

To the concert announcement that follows, I only have this to say: “B-B-B-Bad!” As in the good kind of bad.

Concert resource Pollstar.com indicates that classic rockers George Thorogood & The Destroyers are coming to the Walton Arts Center on March 7, a Sunday. His Web site redirects those interested in learning about his tour dates to Pollstar.com, so the date appears to be confirmed by Thorogood, too. The show does not appear on the Walton Arts Center’s Web site, however.

Thorogood is known for his song “Bad to the Bone” and his covers of standards such as Hank Williams‘ “Move it on Over” and Bo Diddley‘s “Who Do You Love.”

Tickets prices or availability have not been announced. We’ll update you if we learn more.
