When Shyrah Schisler took over the Springdale Har-Ber volleyball program, she wanted to institute a toughness about her girls, and a no-excuses type team. She's done just that. Last season was, literally, a banner year for the Lady Wildcats, finishing as the 7A runner-up with a 28-6-1 record. Har-Ber had to leap certain hurdles to get to the state finals, and Schisler couldn't have been more proud of her group. "As far as I know we had not beaten Bentonville for several years before I got here," she said. "Beating them in the semifinals last year was great for us. They're such … Continue Reading ››

Who could have imagined a Class 7A conference with schools from Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale — and no Fayetteville? It would have happened, starting this fall, had the Arkansas Activities Association and the state schools listened to me. Almost four years ago, I wrote an article on an idea that just popped into my head one day. Instead of the current classification cycle — 16 schools in Class 7A and 6A, 32 in Class 5A and 48 in Class 4A — I envisioned a plan using 24 in Class 7A and 6A and 32 schools in Class 5A and 4A. It looked wonderful at … Continue Reading ››

As sports writers, we spend plenty of time in stadiums and gyms throughout our lifetimes.

I mean, we spend a LOT of time there. We're there so much that they almost become our second homes at times.

We're so accustomed to being there that we almost act like Dr. Sheldon Cooper when somebody has the audacity to be in the place where we always sit when covering athletic events. With the exception of the janitors or the maintenance people, we're usually the last ones to leave because our work doesn't end when the game ends.

But, contrary to the belief, sports … Continue Reading ››

Here are the standings with just two weeks left in the regular season. 2016-02-13 7A-6A BKB standings Several post-season berths have been clinched and there are even some seeds that are set as well. The 7A-West boys second division is a total logjam as there is a 5-way tie for third place (Northside, Southside, Springdale, Har-Ber and Heritage) at 4-6, with last-place Rogers just two games back. It will be an exciting, if not interesting, stretch run.

FORT SMITH — Springdale Har-Ber claimed the Arkansas Wrestling Coaches/Officials Association Dual State title last weekend and the Wildcats will be the favorite to win the upcoming Big West Conference tournament, which begins Friday at Fort Smith Southside. But Har-Ber coach Nika West wants to make sure his team is focused on this event and not the upcoming state tournament.

"My main focus is to keep their attention on this tournament and to go out and perform to the best of their ability," West said."A win here or there can change seedings for the state tournament."

"We've got to worry about Friday, then … Continue Reading ››

There are only 3 weeks left in the season. A few playoff spots have been officially clinched. On the other hand, the battle for the 3-6 seeds is totally jumbled in the 7A-West boys and 2 games separate 3rd place from last place. Going to be a fun 3 weeks. 2016-02-06 7A-6A BKB standings
