The Black Crowes show on Sept. 11 has been canceled

September 10th, 2013 at 5:06 pm

Late last week, I learned from a source the Black Crowes’ show scheduled for Sept. 11 would likely move from the Arkansas Music Pavilion to the Walton Arts Center. A Friday afternoon press released release later confirmed the move.

This afternoon came news the show would instead be canceled.

A family emergency was listed as the reason for the cancelation. A statement the band posted on its website indicates other dates were sought, but the band’s schedule prohibited them from finding another date. However, a glance at the band’s website shows seven open dates in September alone, but I digress.

Curiously, the band’s statement also says they canceled a show scheduled for tonight (Sept. 10) in Birmingham, Ala. At the time of this post, they were trying to reschedule that show for Sept. 11 — which until a few hours ago was to be the date for the Fayetteville performance.

Another source told me a more specific, health-related reason for the sudden cancellation that I have yet to confirm (although, because of its sensitive nature, it would be difficult to get information). And sudden the cancelation was — less than an hour and a half after I received my confirmation of a photo pass, I received the cancellation notice.

Still, the timing leaves questions.

Refunds will be issued. Ticket holders should expect a call in the next 36 hours to discuss refund options.

I believe that’s the universal code for poor ticket sales

There’s certainly some truth to that. If they moved the show from the AMP to the WAC, it means they sold less than 1,000 tickets. The WAC’s capacity is 1,200, and they always give away tickets to sponsors, media, etc…

I’m disappointed that they canceled as well – but their Dad was with Hospice and died late Tuesday night.
