Youth is no obstacle for Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly

The prestigious Berklee College of Music was near Grace Kelly‘s home, so she tried out. Still a teenager, she likely didn’t expect much.

She was instead awarded a full scholarship.

She didn’t care much for high school to start with, so she left to obtain her general education development degree. She attended Berklee, graduating at the age of 19.

That’s not the only feat Kelly has accomplished despite her relative youth. She’s recorded several albums, performed on stages throughout the world and earned a reputation as a formidable live act. She’s still only 20 years old.

Kelly, speaking to me by phone before a recent show in Ohio, talked to me about her most recent recording, “Live at Scullers,” which was recorded in her favorite Boston-area jazz club, and her ambitions for the future. You can read my story about Kelly in today’s What’s Up! section, which is published in the five Northwest Arkansas Media dailies. [Note: Subscriber content]

You can also watch her perform live Saturday (Feb. 16) at the Walton Arts Center. The Grace Kelly Quintet will perform two shows: one at 7 p.m. and another at 9 p.m. Tickets to the shows range from $26-$36.
