Don’t confuse Chris Howorth of In This Moment as a fan of dubstep. Before people started telling him the new band’s album had some dubstep-type elements, he had never heard of the genre.

He gets what people were hinting at — that In This Moment used more studio effects on its latest album than ever before — but says the band shifted there organically.

In This Moment has been on a swift ride since their formation about five years ago, playing at the Ozzfest and Mayhem music festivals and releasing several albums. The group’s latest, “Blood,” debuted inside the Billboard 200 album charts Top 15.

Howorth, speaking to me before a recent gig in Louisiana, chatted about his band’s growth and new direction. You can read the story in today’s What’s Up! section or online, if you are a subscriber to our print or digital editions.

The band performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 4) at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville. Tickets for the show, which also includes a performance by Hatebreed, are $15.
