The weekend in music, with Mike Watt and more

It’s Halloween weekend. Time to get weird (and scary).

There are several Halloween shows this weekend, and if you’ve got a costume, it should be a lot of fun. We could recommend individual ones, but perhaps you should just walk down Dickson Street and see what’s happening. Almost ALL the bars will have some kind of Halloween party.

But that isn’t the only music happening this weekend. A punk legend, for instance — one who has performed with fIREHOSE and The Minutemen and Porno for Pyros — comes into town this weekend.

Mike Watt of The Minutemen now fronts a new project. Called Mike Watt and the Missingmen, the group is currently on a 41-date tour that will bring them on Sunday (Oct. 28) to George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville. Watt is touring behind his fourth solo album “hyphenated-man.” Admission to the 8 p.m. show is $10. For tickets, visit www.georgesmajesticlounge.com.

Elsewhere, JP and the Gilberts make two stops in the area during the weekend. The folk-pop trio from New York will perform with Joe Mack and Carter Sampson tonight (Oct. 26) at Squid and Whale Pub in Eureka Springs and with Jimbo Mathus on Saturday (Oct. 27) at Smoke and Barrel Tavern in Fayetteville.

Other possibilities? Well, there are dozens of shows, of course. Arkansas Bullets plays The Lightbulb Club in Fayetteville tonight, and the Los Lonely Boys also perform this evening. Their show takes place at Neumeier’s Rib Room in Fort Smith.

What’s on your agenda?
