The weekend in music, with Joe Ely and more

It’s a gorgeous fall weekend (although a little crisp today), and you should probably be out and about, enjoying the sunshine and leaves. Truly — is there a prettier part of the country than Northwest Arkansas in the fall? has decided the University of Arkansas is one of the 10 prettiest in the fall, for instance.

So, get out, soak it in, and maybe see a little music when the sun goes down.

With more than 30 years of music to his credit, Texas native Joe Ely continues to cross the country. He performs at the 324 Ballroom (behind Jose’s) in Fayetteville on Saturday (Oct. 20). The concert, which benefits the Arkansas Support Network’s KidsClub program, begins at 7 p.m. Admission ($40) is limited to 100 guests. For details or tickets, call 927-4100.

Elsewhere, Pat Green, a fellow Texan, will perform tonight (Oct. 19) at George’s Majestic Lounge. His 10 p.m. concert will cost you $25. Go if you like Texas country music and cowboy boots — he always puts on a good show.

Legacy Blues has a two-fer from Joe Pitts Band this weekend, so check that out if you’d like. He’ll go on about 10 p.m. both today and Saturday.

George’s ends the weekend with a performance by electronica producer Mimosa. His fall tour finds him out on the road through the end of the year, and he’ll make one of the stops Sunday (Oct. 21) in Fayetteville. Tickets to the 9 p.m. show are $15.

What’s on your schedule?

I’d think most people interested in Joe Ely might also be interested in James McMurtry that night or Todd Snider on Monday, both at George’s.

I agree. All fit the singer-songwriter, criminally underrated mold. But both have been here within the last year or so, so I chose to highlight Joe this time around. You really couldn’t go wrong with any of the shows.
