Congratulations are due to Big Bad Gina, a Northwest Arkansas trio that is a staple of local stages.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, the band traveled to Wisconsin for the National Women’s Music Festival and won a fan- and judge- determined contest at the multi-day event.

The win earns them the right to perform on the festival’s main stage next year and might lead to future touring opportunities, band member Jori Costello says.

Costello chatted with me about the band’s formation, its music and its victory. You can read to story online [Note: Subscriber content] or in today’s What’s Up! section, which is distributed along with the five daily newspapers published by Northwest Arkansas Media.

The trio performs Sunday (June 24) at George’s Majestic Lounge for a special Sunday Happy Hour. Admission to the 7 p.m. show is $7.

And, again, congrats.
