The weekend in music, with Daikaiju and more

Daikaiju

It’s the weekend, which means it’s party time.

Which also means its “worship psycho-surf band” time. Say what?

Well, here’s the deal: Masked rockers Daikaiju will perform tonight (July 15) at the Smoke & Barrel Tavern in Fayetteville. Via their website, the group declares themselves as a “worship psycho-surf band” that is “good for luck and health.” The group is touring in support of the two albums they released in 2010, the March EP “Flight of the Garuda” and the September LP “Phase 2.” The show will begin about 9 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Also then weekend, you can listen in for some jazz with Walter Savage. He plays tonight at Hjem, which is located on the Fayetteville Square. The gig takes place from 7-9:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Teatro Scarpino is hosting a gospel lounge event from 3-5 p.m. It will be led by Annita Smith.

There are plenty more music-watching opportunities this weekend, of course. Which one(s) is(are) on your agenda?
