Listen Here First — Hardaway & The Commoners, Aug. 29 @ George's
August 28th, 2009 at 6:05 am
It didn’t start this way. The Commoners were playing their music. Colin Hardaway was playing his.
But the two formed an unlikely partnership when Hardaway wanted a live act to back a few songs for an upcoming EP.
The tracks were good, the two parties thought. Then, there was a gig, a one-time performance, or so they thought.
The response the crowd offered at George’s Majestic Lounge that evening got the band thinking: What if they made the partnership permanent?
Thus began Hardaway & The Commoners, who play a blend of hip hop and rap over live instrumentation. About a year after cutting the initial tracks, the band has recorded its debut album, “Off The Record,” which they will officially release at George’s on Saturday (Aug. 29).
The band talks about the album, their formation and where they hope to take the project in a story published in today’s What’s Up! section.
Saturday night’s CD release party begins at 9 p.m. Admission is $7. Other bands scheduled to perform include Nate Hancock and the Declaration, The OneUps, Groovement, 607 and DJ MassiV.
Before you go, sample two tracks from Hardaway & The Commoners, both of which appear on the debut recording.
