November 1 = the opening of another live music venue?

The answer is yes.

Earlier this week, we told you about the opening weekend of The Gypsy on College, which kicks off with Nashville, Tenn.’s Bonepony on Saturday (Nov. 1).

Now comes word that another music space swings open its doors that day, too.

The Mayapple Salon opens Nov. 1 at 546 W. Center St., located in the Quonset hut next to the Frisco Trail just west of downtown.

While the business’ main priority will be to serve as an actual salon, it might more accurately be described as a “style factory,” says owner Roxie Hunt.

The space — decorated with visual art from local artists — will serve as a practice facility for local bands and will also host live music performances “a couple times per month,” Hunt said.

It will be a very low-key venue, she explains.

Live music begins there during the salon’s grand opening, which takes place Nov. 1. Music begins at 7 p.m. with the bands Hosta and Sea of Freaks.

Best of luck to what sounds like a very different kind of live music venue, something the scene could truly benefit from.
