Invading Fayetteville next week, musically speaking …

Keith Urban

Mr. Nicole Kidman, country star Keith Urban, is scheduled to perform in Fayetteville during the Wal-Mart Shareholder’s Meeting. He’ll be joined by a diverse and star-studded roster. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette file photo.

During the Wal-Mart Shareholders’ Meeting, which officially takes place June 5-6, the fair city of Fayetteville is invaded by thousands of employees from around the globe and other well-connected Wal-Martians.

To help accommodate and entertain the influx of visitors, Wal-Mart, they of infinite financial resources, always brings in a few concerts during Shareholders’ week.

Here is your first look at who the performers are expected to be. Wal-Mart has confirmed, via a telephone conversation, the June 5 acts: Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and Juan Luis Guerra. All other performer’s names have been provided through a source. None of the performers on that list have a gig elsewhere on the date in question that would prevent them from a gig in Northwest Arkansas

Here is another tidbit worth knowing: the concerts appear to be open to the public. “Invited field associates” get first access to the shows, followed by NWA Wal-Mart associates (who are permitted to bring two guests) and then, if there is any space available, the general public will be permitted.

While a Shareholders’ concert by The Eagles last year was closed to the public, a concert by Fall Out Boy and Chris Brown was opened to the public after Wal-Mart associates were admitted, which follows the format we’ve been told will be used this year.

June 3 (Tuesday)

Lifehouse and Taylor Swift, Bud Walton Arena

Venue entrance: 6 p.m. field associates/6:20 p.m. associates/6:45 p.m. public/7 p.m. start time

• Notes: This is interesting, considering that Swift is coming to Fayetteville on June 20 for a public concert at the Tyson Track Center.

June 4 (Wednesday)

All American Rejects and Journey, Bud Walton Arena

Venue entrance: 6 p.m. field associates/6:20 p.m. NWA associates/6:45 p.m. public/7 p.m. start time

• Notes: Journey’s appearance makes particular sense, considering the group will release a CD/DVD collection exclusively through Wal-Mart on June 3, the date before the concert is scheduled to take place. The University of Arkansas confirms that Wal-Mart will be using Bud Walton Arena on June 3-4, but cannot say what will take place.

June 5 (Thursday)

Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium

Venue entrance: 6:30 p.m. field associates/6:50 p.m. NWA associates/7:15 p.m. public/7:30 p.m. start tim

• Notes: When Jimmy Buffett performed at the Shareholders’ week in 2005, his concert, which also included appearances by Shakira and Jesse McCartney, took place at Razorback Stadium. Only 25,000 were admitted into the 70,000-plus-seat venue for the show, and it was not open to shareholders or the public.

Juan Luis Guerra, Barnhill Arena

Venue entrance: 6 p.m. field associates/6:20 p.m. NWA associates/6:45 p.m. public/7 p.m. start time

• In the past, the most recent “American Idol” winners have stopped by, too, so don’t be surprised if David Cook sings a song or two one of these evenings. We were also told that Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus will make an appearance, though that seems to be speculation at this point.

Wal-Mart is expected to announce more Shareholders’ information by the end of the week. If something changes, we’ll let you know.
