Why Mushroomhead won't be pumpkinheads, too

Mushroomhead, who will perform at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville, apparently wanted to be the Smashing Pumpkins, at least for a few nights, anyway.

Via its Web site, Mushroomhead has asked members of its audience to bring pumpkins with the band’s image in it to each of its remaining tour dates. The pumpkins will be videotaped for an upcoming DVD project the band is working on and will be “used on stage.”

Not at George’s, however. Venue owner Brian Crowne told the Times that no fresh produce is permitted inside George’s. The band had not informed the venue about its plans for the pumpkins, Crowne said.

Instead, patrons will have to appreciate the band as what they are: hard-core, industrial-edged metal, done behind the veil of elaborate masks.

Here is a music video of the band performing “Simple Survival” from 2006’s “Savior Sorrow.” No pumpkins were harmed in the filming of this video.

Update: Officials at George’s are working with Mushroomhead’s tour manager so those who do bring pumpkins don’t get them confiscated. We’ll keep you posted if we hear anything else.
